Description

In today’s modern workforce, it is not uncommon to see employees spanning from up to five different generations within a team. According to the National Study of Mental Health and Wellbeing, 42.9% of people between the ages of 16- 85 had experienced a mental health disorder at sometime within their lifetime (ABS, 2024). Given this, regardless of age, at least two in five people within the workplace may be struggling with their mental well-being.

Intergenerational differences such as rigid societal and cultural norms of that generation, varying levels of mental health literacy and understanding, roles and responsibilities, and life experience and challenges, all present unique issues across the generational divide. And yet, despite these differences, mental health challenges are universal.

This session will shed light on some of the challenges we face specifically approaching and supporting individuals who are experiencing mental health challenges, through the lens of an intergenerational community. Attendees will come to understand the power of reciprocal mental health support between the generations, and how to best harness this. Including gaining the tools and knowledge of how to have an R U OK conversation with all members of the community, and of your workplace.
