Being a working parent and caring for a child is both joyful – and at times can be really tough. In addition to being part of your wonderful child’s life, there are many positive aspects of raising a child with additional needs – and these should be celebrated. It’s also important to acknowledge that being a parent or carer of a child with special or additional needs can be very demanding, stressful and even lonely at times.
Inclusive workplace programs cater for the needs of a diverse workforce – it is important to acknowledge that some general parenting support may not be entirely relevant for families with children with additional needs. This program was designed to support parents caring for additional needs children, with two main challenges. First explore strategies for taking time for self-care, as the demands of caring can take their toll on employee and family wellbeing. Second, to offer a framework for speaking with professionals and advocating for their child to get the support they need. Finally, offer working parents the opportunity to share their challenges and support needs.
Resourcing employees reduces parental stress so they can succeed at home and be more focussed and productive at work. Workplace programs that support working parents and their families to thrive, nurture a family-friendly workplace culture.
Designed for working parents and carers raising children aged toddler to teenager.
