Description

Research shows that early intervention and support-seeking behaviors can promote sustained emotional wellbeing and reduce health care costs. This interactive session empowers participants to navigate mental health conversations through practical, hands-on activities. Collaborative discussion and real-world scenarios allow participants to develop greater awareness of their current state of mental wellbeing, explore common barriers to sharing mental health experiences, and apply a simple 4 step plan when preparing to share and obtain additional support.  Participants will also identify the key characteristics of a supportive person, and explore community and workplace resources that can provide informal and formal support that promotes emotional wellbeing.

Structure

This instructor-led session combines lectures with a variety of engaging elements including  self assessment, case scenario discussions, skill building activities, and opportunities for Q&A.

Section 1: Reflecting on your mental health

  • Self assessment: how am I feeling today?
  • Warning signs of excessive stress
  • When sharing your mental health can benefit you

Section 2: Strategies for sharing and seeking support

  • 4 step plan to prepare for sharing your mental health experience
  • Activity: Identifying resources for informal and formal support
  • Case scenario: asking for informal support from colleagues or leaders
